Grounding (ALDL)

Is this photo correct ?
I'm going to ground A @ B when setting IAC valve and just wanted to be sure.

Re: Grounding (ALDL)

Also in my Chilton's it only says “disconnect the distributer set-timing connector”
would that be the same “EST”wire I disconnect when setting my base timing ?

OK,
I found another set of instructions on installing a new IAC valve in my Chilton.
  1. disconnect negative cable
  2. measure pintal
  3. install new IAC valve
  4. connect IAC wiring
  5. connect negative cable
  6. depress accelerator slightly
  7. start engine ,run for 5 seconds
  8. turn ignition off for 10 seconds
  9. restart engine and check for proper idle.
Thats it.
So what do I use ? The procedure using the grounding of the (ALDL) or the other ?

Jumpering the ALDL and disconnecting the EST is the most common recommended method

The pictures in that link are not showing up. Can you tell me if that photo above is correct ?

Re: Grounding (ALDL)

I just used the method above first to see where that would take me and if the object is to have the pintal fully closed than I have reached my goal. Looking at it right after the procedure I could plainly see it in the portal opening that it was closed. I then warmed the car to operating temp, and even though I do not have a lap top I still made a small adjustment to the throttle plates to drop the idle bit. The car idles nice and smooth in ether park or drive. I took it for a drive and hit as many stops as I could .Sounds great and has nice throttle response. So far I'm happy with it but only time will tell.

Thank you for your response vetteoz
