I got an auto 1985 camaro came with 305
so I got my new 355 finished. Il be putting it back in after the finishing touches.
So I'm.basically go to make it a simple.setup. I'm using a points distributor.
I figured out my starter wires, and ignition wires. And alternator wires. Got it fired up.
I'm putting in a mechanical oil pressure gauge and a temp.gauge.

There is a lot of wires on the harness. Most of which I'm assuming
Were for the stock hei and emissions junk.
Does that meen any wires I'm not using I.can just cut off and make the engine
Bay look clean.

I plan on using my old 700r4 though and I noticed it had a connection going to it.
I would def keep that but does the transmission need any other wires connected to work
Before I cut anything off?

1985 TransAM
All the wires feeding up from behind the passenger side wheel well lead to the computer. All this can be removed. Trace the harness out form the main bundle to where they go and disconnect. You will need a fan control if you have electric fan and a torque converter lockup of some kind for the trans. That's what those wires on the trans are. I only cut one wire that connected between this harness and the drivers side harness, but mine was pretty hacked before I got it. No telling what was already gone. It was a fuel injected 305 now converted to carb.

Don't forget that the heater wires IE.. High Blower Relay and all your A/C wires come out from the passenger side if you are using that. Along with the Fan Relays and TCC. I would trace each wire and not just start hacking and whacking. I believe there are 2 grounds that are there that need to be grounded and not cut also.

All that mess look familiar. So I can remove every wire on the passanger
Side? but can I still keep the transsmission connnection and
Have it still lock up?

I don't think so.
I used a kit similar to this one
on Amazon on Amazon

While were at it your going to need to address the TV cable as well. Just sticking a bracket on there and hooking it to the carb won't cut it. It requires a precision setup. Like this one I used for my Quadrajet carb.

Yep Mo Money.

Of course more money. And I know the converter locks up
At highway speeds for.better gas but this car is just going to.be a street/strip car.
So is.that kit really necessary?
The tv kit I'm def going to need as I.have an edelbrock carb.

I have read that it can be run without locking it up without issue.

If the computer is still functional and you manage to keep the right wires intact you could experiment with it later by using this little cheat - https://www.thirdgen.org/torqueswitch.
That is how my car was setup when I got it. Just a toggle switch to turn the lock on and off on demand.

When I pulled the wires out of mine I took out the whole harness down to and including the computer.
