89 gauge wiring help needed

I'm looking to put a set of aftermarket gauges in my 89 camaro but have a few questions.

1) When I replaced my trans, the replacement tranys came out of a 91 with electric speedo sending unit. Can this sending unit be used with aftermarget gauges?

2) Can I use all the factory sending units and wiring and just wire the aftermarket gauges off the stock connectors in the dash?

3) Dose anybody have a pin out for the 89 cluster connectors I have found one for an 86. would this be the same for the 89?

Depends .
Some aftermarket gauges only work with their own dedicated sender units
Need to check the specs, in any case you use the stock wiring from engine to the dash and just replace the sender unit(s)

Re: 89 gauge wiring help needed

thanks for the info. I was hopping I would have to buy a conveter box like. The resons I wanted to switch to an electic speedo is because mine bounces around alot. Is this normal? Also when I hit a decent bump or floor it the speedo goes crazy and there is a loud buzzy/whining noise any body know what this could be?

aslo still looking for the pin out for the 89 gauge connectors.

I own the older dakota digital dash for camaro's and am putting in the new Dakota Digital system. If your dash is bouncing around, I would change both halves of your cable drive system. I am now sure about the buzzy / whining noise though. The Dakota digital box takes the signal from the Speedo Generator that you install in place of the cable drive sender. It also takes all additional signals from (oil pressure, fuel, brake, turn signals, e-brake, rpm, check engine light, etc.. etc. and puts that to the dakota dash assembly.) I have the pin out's for the 87 IROC but not 89 from the 1987 GM Service Mitchell Manual. I am not sure if they are the same..

What do you mean by both halfs of the cable drive system?

Re: 89 gauge wiring help needed

I need a pin out for an 89 iroc gauge cluster.... yes i have searched and I have found one for an 86 and 87 but not for an 89. Or as anbody else done a gauge swap in an 89 that can tell me what wires from the factory harness are for what.

I have decided to go with the analog dakota digital cluster but want to make sure I can wire it before I actually buy one.

Re: 89 gauge wiring help needed

From what I understand they are all the same pin outs as I used a 87 diagram on my 89 iroc when I put in all autometer gauges and used the stock harness. thes are the ones I used for the plugs that plug into the cluster

C1 is on the right side and c2 is on the left. You can always use the wires as they are different colours in different spots
