Suggestions for HEI System
I'm about to swap in my 385 stoker motor for my stock 305. I am eliminating the stock quadrajet so I obviously need a new distributor as well. I am definitely ignorant when it comes to ignition systems haha.
I need recommendations for distributors. Is there anything else that I will need?
I was thinking a distributor with mechanical and vacuum advance. If it matters my car is an automatic, the carb is a built non computer controlled quadrajet, and the car will be used on the street.

Re: Suggestions for HEI System
Will any distributor be a drop in plug in?
I can probably get an only distributor and upgrade the internals

Re: Suggestions for HEI System
It's a drop-in, plug-in and no need to upgrade the internals unless something is worn or you're trying squeeze out that last tiny fraction of a second at the track.

Hmm. Good to know.
I called MSD (yeah obv they weren't going to say just buy our distributor) but they told me i needed to buy one of their boxes and blaster coils as well as their distributor.
My motor will probably pull to 6,200 rpm.
Before I posted this I was looking into buying this distributor :

If I can't find an older distributor will this be good for me?
Opinions on another one?

They want to sell stuff. The box and coil is better suited for high rpms. Most hei will be good to 6500.
