Camaro headlight replacement
I decided to replace a headlight that has moisture in it. And will probably just replace all of them.
I bought a long Philips screw driver so I could get to the lower screws and at least loosen them. You have to push down on the bumper surround to get to them.
After I got them loose I discovered that's all that was needed as the holes were open on the bottom of the bezel. So it just slips over the screws on the bottom.
A little WD40 or ? dabbed on the screws and left to soak might help as mine were real tight and had no rust.
Also this would best done on a warm day or warming the surround up as it needs to flex to get to bottom screws.... if it's real cold out it might crack.
The Key is a Long screw driver that fits the head correcty.... It doesn't have to be as long as the one I used, but you want to get out beyond the bumper for leverage to break the screws free.
The light that started all of this: Note the moisture inside.

The silver center scew is the headlight ajustment, so don't mess with it unless your headlights are out of wack.

Re: Camaro headlight replacement
You dont have to remove the bottom 2 screws.. you can actually slip the headlight above the metal bezel in the last photo by just removing the top screws and bending the bezel down

At some point those tabs will break from bending and their all that hold the light in place.

Re: Camaro headlight replacement
I have been nervous about doing this since I just got my car painted and don't want to scratch the new paint. I guess being careful is the key.

Now that's one hell of a screwdriver. Harbor Freight has it all.
Anyway I just replaced mine and went with the Xtravision. Heres a link taking you to Sylvanias automotive light selection = https://www.sylvania.com/en-us/produ...-products.aspx
By the way the brighter the light the shorter the life span.

And they don't last as long is right.
I own a Kenworth .... and when I first got it several years ago I replaced the driving lights ( it has 2 driving & 2 HB's ) with Sylvanias Xtravision..... Well one went out within a year and I do daytime work, just a bit of headlight use in the AM or PM of a long day.
I don't think they put the bulb life on the box even ? this is back when they were advertising them with the TV add if you care about your daughter you'll give her brighter lights. Yeah right.... until they burn out.
Anyway, I called customer service when the light went out and they sent me at my request a regular Halogen replacement free.... so it went back to Halogen, and 7 years later same lights.
So if they don't last call them on it. Edit : it might have been the Silver Stars I had ? they had a whiter light I remember.
I'm just glad I don't have some of these new healights that cost a fortune

Re: Camaro headlight replacement
At $12.99 a Xtravision bulb compared to the $10.49 standard bulb I thought I would try the Xtravision . It’s not really a fair comparison because the low beam bulbs I replaced were 9 years old and I could not even see the on ramp until I was almost passed it and is the main reason I replaced them. I very rarely use them though except for a few hours a week. The Xtravision were a marked improvement over the stock especially once you get them adjusted properly. You have to adjust them so they shine further than a standard bulb obviously and even though my Camaro bulbs sit back from the front of the car they still have a "much" better side of the road illumination.
There not as white as I would have liked.
The true test of the light IMO will be when I get it on a back country road where there are no street lights. That's where you will really see how much of a difference they are making.
As far as life span if you click on this link than click on each bulb it gives you a estimated life span =
http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/se...word=headlight . There are a ton of conditions dictating exactly how long a bulb will last but that's general.
At this point considering IMO the Xtravision bulbs are better than the standard bulbs and being able to see at night even a little better is important to me and they last me even a few years (those are the reasons I picked the Xtravision )I don't have any problem paying the $ 26.00 dollars a pair of low beams cost.
Actualy next time I would have liked to try the Cool Blue light because they look to be much whiter. Unfortunatly I cant find them in a H4656 or a H4651 bulb.

like the way you did your work..respecting the paint/body..and using the proper tools..your front end repainted?...reason I ask is that your hood mounts(rubber stems) are same color as car...unscrew em,and get that paint off,,,back to rubber...and dab em with a bit of grease..so they dont emit sounds when crossing railroad trax,etc....seem like you take pride in your ride....
