Rear hatch solenoid Amp draw 1984 Firebird

Rear hatch solenoid Amp draw 1984 Firebird

Does anyone know the amperage draw of the rear hatch solenoid? I want to put another switch on it and need the amperage rating.

Measure the resistance of the solenoid, then use Amps=Volts/Ohms to determine the amperage required to overcome resistance.

Thanks! I didn't think of that. I found a SPST relay with 40Amp contacts, so I think I'm good.

Can I assume that if contacts are rated at 240V 10A, then at 12V they can theoretically handle 200A?

NO

10 amps is safe max for that relay.

Thank you. Then it would be each contact is rated at 10A. The relay is DPDT, so each throw can handle 10A, correct?
