cranking problem..please help

Hi guys i have a 91 rs. 5.0. I pulled out and replaced block. When i was ready to start her up; she wouldnt make no noise or cranck. I replaced battery since it was been sitting for a few years. I replaced battery terminal cable goin to the starter. I checked starter switch. Fuses. Safety swich and still no cranck. I could turn on the hea lights i have 12 volts on the red cables. But only on the purple cable goin to the starter i have 4.8 volts. Please anyone has an idea what could be the problem.

Re: cranking problem..please help

Check the ignition switch at the column with a meter, you should see 12 volts while cranking, after that the next thing in line is the clutch safety switch above the pedal if you have a manual, or the neutral safety switch if its an auto located in the center console, I know for manuals the wire going in is yellow and the wire going out is the purple wire, can't say for certain on the neutral switch for an auto but I believe its the sane deal, whichever you have check the yellow wire for 12 volts. Then check the purple for 12, if it goes in as 12 and doesnt come out as 12 you've found your issue. I believe there's also a risible link that causes this same issue but I'm not totally sure on that

Jumper the two wires to bypass it and see if that changes anything ; might have high resistance causing the voltage drop

it's the switch, you cant close the solenoid with 5volts. take it out and test the continouity just to be shure. and test the one goin back in too.
