Cruise control

I cannot seem to find a thread that addresses this issue. I have a 1984 Trans am with the L69 305 HO engine. I recently removed all of the emission stuff from the car, as well as ditching the computer. I removed the ECM and the harness without cutting any wires. I installed a new standard HEI distributor and a Holley vacuum secondary 4150 carb. I bought the Holley brackets for the throttle cable and TV cable. Everything works fine except the cruise control no longer works. I was of the opinion that the cruise control on the 1984 models had nothing to do with the computer system. Yet the cruise worked just fine prior to swapping out the carb and distributor. I made a support bracket out of the stock bracket, and I bought the extended throttle stud to connect it to, so mechanically it's assembled right. It's not a fuse, as the fuse for the cruise also protects other things like the gauges, and that stuff works fine. So, what am I missing? I have vacuum at the servo. Is there anything that would have been affected by removing the computer wires to the carb or distributor? I'm stumped. I expected that as long as I got the cable hooked up right, the cruise would work like it always did. Thanks in advance for your help. Please, no lectures on the efficiency, etc of the CCC system or harmful emissions. I now have what I want, a clean engine bay and great performance, just need to fix the cruise control for highway driving.

Re: Cruise control

Thank you James. This sounds exactly like what I need to do. Now I just have to find the items you reference and figure out how to add the jumper wire. As you can probably tell, I am very week on chassis electrical.

So, pic gnd2 is clearly behind the dash on the pass side. How do I get to it? It's hard to tell in the photo, does the dash bezel need to be off? Are the wires coming out from under the dash cover? Or do I get to it from under the dash? Does that black plug stay plugged into the module? Is the module mounted? If so, where? Would I use a splice-tap connector?

In your photo gnd1 I really can't tell where that is located, although it appears to be under the dash as well. Is this the pass side as well? Is that piece loose or mounted? How do I access it? Again, do I just tap into the blk/wht wire with a splice connector? Sorry for all the detail questions, it's just that I have no experience with these pieces or their locations and I want to get this right.

Thanks in advance James.

Re: Cruise control

Both connectors are under the pass side dash. Remove the shush panel and perhaps the kick panel and you will probably be able to access the parts you need.

IIRC, the gnd1 plug with the black/white wire on one side and the blue and green wires used to be the bulk head connector that passed through the side of the car (remove the kick panel). The blue and green wire still pass through that area as they are for the back up lights.

Gnd2 plugs into the cruise control module (yellow box) which is located more toward the center of the car.

A splice connector wouldn't be my first choice.
