oil pressure gauge acting up

Suddenly the other day the oil pressure gauge goes weird. As soon as you turn the key on, the gauge reads at max and stays there. A few days later I had the cluster plates off and physically moved the needle to zero, then turned the key on and it kicks right over to max again! What's up???

The only thing I was doing with the car at the time I noticed this was running a jumper wire from the auto shifter switch to the ECM (the idle control wire). I was doing this because the car used to be a 5 speed, but I bought it without an engine and tranny and then swapped in an 5.7TPI and 700R4 that I had as well as the main engine harness and ECM. I wonder if there is a link here?

Re: oil pressure gauge acting up

personally I dont trust the stock gauges and would look at getting a autometer one as its more reliable. Its just an opinion tho but if you wanna fix the stock one try a different gauge or cluster if you have access to one. That way you can eliminate the cluste its self

Weird, the gauge just started working again all by itself.
