88 IROC alternator
Hey there-- the plug into the alternator on my 88 IROC wouldn't stay in place.. went to the auto parts to replace it .. and the replacement they showed was NOT the right part. I looked around and found the one that matched up listed under a different car. Long story short.. the alternator is new.. but, doesn't show as charging. The new plug has a large red wire a small black wire and a small light brown wire. From the harness there's a large red wire a small beige (maybe) with a white stripe and a light gray wire (Pics). The alternator is not charging.. and my alternator checker is showing it as bad.. but, I'm sure I have the wires wrong. Any help is appreciated.

Alternating Alternators
The troubling part is the store had a problem finding the correct one, assuming the connector on your car is the original type.
Find out if the alternator wiring has the correct voltages going to it.
The heavier red wire goes from a Fusible Link, to the positive stud, and should have power at all times.
The thinner red wire goes from a different Fusible Link, to terminal S (the sensing circuit) and should have power at all times.
The brown wire goes to terminal F (the turn-on input) from the FAN fuse, and should have power when the key is in the RUN position.
