I.D. Please?

What are the two relays located just to the right of the brake power booster, and what do they power, I'm attempting to clean out all unnessasary wiring under my hood, this is a street vehicle not a full blown race car, so wipers, lights, washer fluid, heater controls, directional signals, etc are a must, so cleaned up not butchered is my goal, thanks in advance....

Re: I.D. Please?

One of the relays would be for the fuel pump and one for the cooling fan.

If you have a mechanical fuel pump on the block and you have bypassed/removed the electrical pump, you can eliminate the relay.
If you have a mechanical fan on the engine and removed the electric fan, you can remove the fan relay.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Lou it was a big help, I am in the process of cleaning unneeded under hood wiring, and Im pretty certain those have been bypassed long ago since I have gone to Carb from TBI and HEI from the TBI style distributor, I added another relay to power the pump bypassing the the factory computer/distributor combo, and the VATS have long since been bypassed as well, I did mistakenly cut the brown alternator wire, so i peeled thru the plastic looming only to find one brown wire that seems to be a match in gauge and color, so I extended it and reconnected the two, am I correct that this is the only matching UNDER HOOD BROWN WIRE or could I be wrong, dont wish to cause a fire or an electrical issue?

IIRC, the only brown wire on the engine should be for the alternator field coil excitation and the fan relay. So keep the brown wire. The wire has a fuse too so do not fear fire, the fuse will protect the wire.

Thanks again Lou, you really know your stuff, I have had the excess wiring riding around looking terrible for years now, and its time to clean up the clutter under the hood, thanks again Bro.
