That's not an "N". It's supposed to depict the choke blade in the carb.
The light means there's an issue with the choke.

Re: What does this warning light mean
That light says "choke" but it's REALLY the alternator light.
Happens all the time.
Odds are, you need an alt.

Re: What does this warning light mean
Since you no longer have it hooked up, the choke wire could have shorted out on something and blown the fuse.

Re: What does this warning light mean
Your alternator is probably fine and will test fine, but the plug &/or the wires could be probably the problem. The Choke relay is also suspect,... I'm guessing that you already checked the fuses !?!
Carefully inspect 2 terminals inside the prong alternator connector,... They are notorious for getting covered in crud and even becoming weak & breaking off. Also caefully check the BROWN wire as far as you can because that's the one that controls your warning light.
These should allow you to figure it out.

Re: What does this warning light mean
ok so today i got another 20 amp fuse an put it in as soon as i turned the key it blew so i knew there was a short somewhere then i looked in the engine bay and found a wire that must have been cut from when the P.O. was installing the eldebrock carb. this wire was being grounded by the valve covers. thanks for all your answers

Re: What does this warning light mean
Remember where that wire is when you later add an electric choke.
