5.0 v8 carb wiring question
I bought an 86 camaro engine and trans and bought a wiring harness separately and I can't find the plugs for the trans on the harness, does anyone have a wiring diagram that shows what color wires should go to the trans. Or if anyone know what wires go to the trans I need to know, I kinda need my speedo lol

'86 did not have an electronic speedometer, it was cable-driven. So you won't find it on the old harness, you will need to use part of your 1991 Firebird harness.

So if it was cable driven what do I do about my speedo? Is there still a connector for it on my trans?

Yes, like I said, you will need to use your old/stock 1991 harness which has the VSS connector. And if you still have your old 1991 transmission, it should have the VSS in it.

or swap the electric speedo for a cable one and swap the tailshaft gears. You're using the 86 ECM for the computer controlled carb? Not sure how the ECM would get the VSS signal with the later speedo. May work...

On the 90 -92 MAP TPI cars the VSS signal goes directly to the '730 ECM then is outputted to the speedo ;
the reverse of the MAF TPI cars where the VSS went to the speed with a output to the '165 ECM

Re: 5.0 v8 carb wiring question
Your 91 V6 HAD a speedo system that required the ECM in order to function. Now that the ECM is gone you will need to add a VSS Buffer in order to get the speedo working again.
The first thing you will need is T5 electric VSS ( mounted to tranny ) and matching plug. The next thing you will need is a VSS buffer - it looks like this:

This is the way it will need to be wired in order for the speedo to work again. You don't "need" the cruise or the Ecm connections.
* This diagram is from a CAMARO manual,...... double check to be sure the pin locations on your dash cluster are accurate !
