headlight wiring.

ok, im a noob. i just got my 91 rs, and theres no turn signal stalk. so im trying to wire everything through toggles. dont judge.
ive been doing a lot of research, and ive decided i want one switch to turn on lights, and another for brights, and lows.

how would i do this? does anyone have a good diagram i can use, or something with what wires are which?

i know theres a way to do this, im just trying to think how i would do it with two different toggles.

also...voltages and such would be awesome

Re: headlight wiring.

ill figure out what to do with wipers, interior illumination, etc at a later time...i just want to get this working. the main reason i started doing this, was because i have no wipers. can i wire a toggle for a constant speed for that, too? no variable?

You didn’t say the Pull For On light switch is bad so we assume it’s good.

But if you want to convert it to a toggle, have a Single Pole Single Throw toggle switch connect the
red wire to the yellow wire.

You should retain the circuit breaker present in the original Pull For On light switch.

For brights use a Single Pole Double Throw toggle.

Connect the
yellow wire located in the column to the common (center), the
tan wire to one end terminal on the switch, then connect the
light green wire located in the column to other end terminal on the toggle switch.

The wipers take more time to explain if you want them to park automatically.

Either someone can chime in with that one, or we shall return with the details at a future date.

Re: headlight wiring.

thank you so much! im gonna give this a try as soon as i grab a switch. is it alright to just use any toggle as long as its the right type? spst/spdt, right? the pull for on is good, correct.
if you feel like detailing the wipers, and turn signals...that would be amazing, and much apreciated. shes gonna be on the road again soon, and some wipers would be amazing!
thanks for taking the time on that last post, too. that was more info that i had found in hours on the internet!

Re: headlight wiring.

oh, and as far as the wipers parking automatically...i think i could get away with just shutting them off at the right time? would that be ok? im trying really hard to just make this really simple, as i wanna make it a racecar, once i get that kind of knowledge. im a huge noob atm. but i figure ive got a camaro. hahaha.

also, by circuit breaker, do you mean the fuse? or the entire pull for on mechanism?

You can use almost any toggle.

All industrial toggles, except the miniature types can handle the current.

You want a switch that can handle at least 20 amps at 12 volts.

I recommend using the breaker in the Pull For On switch which automatically resets, reducing the chance of being without lights at night, which would be the case if a fuse blew.

To use that breaker, wire the toggle in line with the Pull For On switch, using the terminals with the
red wire and the yellow wire.

Once you’re all setup you will leave the Pull For On switch in the extended position.

You can insulate it and mount it behind the knee bolster.

Wipers:

Yes I can explain, still at a later date, turn signals, and how to do a simpler circuit for wipers so you’ll just have to turn them off when the are near the park position.

The wires for the brights are at the bottom of the steering column.

Wipers:
For non-automatic parking wipers use a Single Pole Single Throw toggle.

Connect one side of the switch to the
White wire at the output side of the Wiper fuse.

Connect the other side of the switch to the
pink wire, the purple wire, and the gray wire
at the wiper motor.

Also you can access the above wires at the 11 terminal connector on the right side of the steering column.

Turn Signals:

You can gain access to the wires you need at a different connector near the steering column.

It’s the larger of the connectors located on the right side of the steering column.

For the turn signals use a Single Pole Double Throw Center Off toggle switch.

Connect the center terminal of the toggle to the
purple wire.

Connect one of the other terminals to the
light blue wire and the yellow wire.

Connect the remaining terminal of the toggle to the
dark blue wire and the
dark green wire.

The turn signal flasher is clipped onto the fuse panel, as delivered from the factory.

However if it has been replaced it might just be hanging in the maze of wires.

It could be stuffed in back of wires in which you will have to remove the knee bolster.

It’s round and approximately 1¼” diameter.

The Fuse Panel is located behind a door which is up and to the left of the brake pedal.

If you are uncertain about any wires you can temporarily test any new connection thru a 20 amp fuse.

That will prevent wiring from being damaged if you make a wrong connection.
