Fuel sending unit troubles

Fuel sending unit troubles
Well, I'm upset. It started a few years ago. I had a fully functioning fuel gauge until one day I pulled the tank and replaced the fuel pump and all of the sudden the fuel gauge read as being pegged on a full tank, infinite resistance. I checked the gauge by removing the connector above the differential in front of the tank and inserting a paperclip. The gauge properly showed an empty tank. Not looking forward to removing the tank again I put it off.
So recently I purchased a new sending unit from Spectre. I tested the unit before installing it into the tank and it wold show the correct amount of resistance (0-90 ohms). I installed the new sending unit and put the rear end back together. Checked the gauge and it still reads incorrectly. I pulled the connector again and used an Ohmmeter to find 2 Ohms resistance between ground (black) and the sending unit (purple) on a tank that should have 8-9 gallons inside.
Anyone have any ideas? I never checked the sending unit after I installed it in the tank and before it went in the car. I checked the position of the fuel pump strainer and it did not interfere with the sending unit's arm. Is it possible that the fuel sending unit float or arm could be physically stuck on something inside the tank? Could it be possible that the arm's float does not float?
I'm tired of not knowing how much gas I have!

Re: Fuel sending unit troubles
Hello! Sorry about reviving an old thread, but I noticed no one was able to help! I was curious if you still needed assistance with your gauge trouble/ found a solution?
