What's a good scan tool?
I am looking for a good OBD 1 scan tool. I have a TPI. Someone told me Innova and I did my research however it had some bad reviews. I looked up some threads but the threads are from 2001. So what do you guys recommend? Also what about a scanner program for a laptop? I want a good scanner for a good price.

I use an Autoxray 6000 and it reads the older stuff fine. It's about 5(?) years old now so that model may not be available anymore.

chances are, no matter what tool you look at, it will have mixed reviews, at least from MAF TPI owners. The 165 ECUs are notorious for being very flaky with their serial ALDL data outputs, and most likely, this will result in many complaints against any brand of scan tool.
I have an older Auto X-Ray, and on my TPI Corvette (Speed density) it worked flawlessly. On my MAF cars (both use/used 165 ECUs), it only connects about 5% of the time, then it's a complete gamble how long it would maintain communication.
