FUEL GAUGE READS 'FULL' ALWAYS

My problem is that gauge always shows that fuel tank is "FULL".
I have seen this video in YouTube channel which shows the exact position to cut into tank.

I have a 1982 trans am with LU5 engine. Do i have to cut in the same spot?

Re: FUEL GAUGE READS 'FULL' ALWAYS

Unless you're dead set on cutting the hole, I would do it the right way and drop the tank. It may seem easier to do it that way and some have done it on here, but I personally don't care for it.

If you do decide to do this then yes you would cut in the same spot. All thirdgens have the pick up in the same location.

Good luck either way.

Have you confirmed that it's the sending unit in the tank and not the gauge that is bad?

If you have a 82-92 fuel tank and want to cut the floor to get to the pump faster you would be best to drop the tank and then cut and flare and install AN fittings on the (new?) sending unit. If you just cut the floor it would be difficult to flare the hard lines well as they lay against the tank.

I had the same issue with the always full gas tank. I ran a ground cable from battery to body because it didn't have one. It fixed my fuel gauge. So I would refresh all the ground cable connections.

Just a thought for you....My 92 had that same problem and when I dropped my tank to replace the fuel pump, the arm that the float is on had gotten hung up on the bracket somehow... bent the little tab that it was hung up on and the fuel gauge started working again...

You proubobly have a bad fuel pump Sending unit. The floats tend to stick after a while you prolly have to drop the tank and replace the pump.
