Did 85 IROC Fog Harnesses Have Relays?

I bought this harness, supposedly from an '85 IROC and sold as UNCUT. When it arrived, I was surprised to see that it did not have the relay. The harness looks too simple. I plan on adding this to my '89 RS.

My questions -
1) Does this look like a complete harness from an '85 IROC?
2) Is this thing going to burn up switches, pulling juice straight from the fuse block (I do plan on adding an inline fuse)?

Just looked in my 85 shop manual. There's no relay on the fog lights. It goes directly from the low beam, to the fog light switch then out to the lights. No relay seen on the diagram.

Thanks for looking. Not what I was expecting. As much as I hate to do it, I'll probably end up cutting the harness, where it goes under the dash, to add a relay. May as well do it right the first time.

I agree sir. While you're at it, install power window relays too.

The closer to the power source and the load the better. Factory relay mounts on the core support, right about where it looks like your harness is spliced on the hot. Just cut it there, run a fused hot from the battery and tie into the same ground screw for another ground. Hot from the switch is the trigger for relay, new ground is the ground for it.

Re: Did 85 IROC Fog Harnesses Have Relays?

I personally would run a separate ground. I've seen a higher current component burn out a lower of grounded to the same point. I've seen this on supposed factory wiring on the limos I fix.

Just my .02. I even ground fans independent of each other, but that's just me.

" and tie into the same ground screw for another ground"
Did you miss that part or misunderstand it? Two ground wires, one screw.
The relay has very little draw and the second ground is really already overkill.

edit; apparently I misunderstood you, but again the relay has little draw unlike a fan. If a wire burned being mounted in tandem with another, it was probably because it was loose.

Re: Did 85 IROC Fog Harnesses Have Relays?

I think we both misunderstood each other.

All I'm saying is, I've been working on 12 volt wiring for 20 years and have seen a lot of strange things....especially on the limos I fix routinely.

Thank you both. I do appreciate your suggestions.
