91 RS Automatic Will Not Crank
I went out to start my car one day and it would not crank. The Starter Enable Relay is working because I can hear it clicking every time I try and start it. After reading a few posts I thought the NNeutral Safety Switch might be to blame. I worked the shifter back and forth while holding the ignition forwards and the starter would sputter and I finally got it started. Since this seemed to help I decided to bypass the Neutral Safety Switch by splicing the 2 big wires together (as some posts said to do). Problem solved, NOT!
Yesterday I went out to start the car and the starter began to engage but then it made those really fast clicking noises like the battery was too low. I checked the battery terminals and even swapped the battery from my other vehicle with the same results.
Now the starter doesn't even make a sound when I turn the ignition. The Starter Enable Relay is still working and the Neutral Safety Switch is still bypassed too.
I don't know what to do.
I have read that the possible causes for this are broken wires, corroded contacts, VATS, broken key chip, etc.

The fuel pump is also working as well if that has anything to do with the security system.

If it does ,you have a problem with the starter wiring between the key and starter.
If it doesn't then , new starter time

Is your security light on? The fuel pump will still work if the vats is enabled but the injectors won't

Re: 91 RS Automatic Will Not Crank
This car is a mess! I'm giving up on it.
I just bought me an 84 Z28 with a 305 H.O. engine. This car is in much better shape but it's flooding itself to death.
I'm just gonna use the 91 RS for body parts and stuff.

Re: 91 RS Automatic Will Not Crank
Hmmm. I'm still at a loss.
If i have the parking lights turned on and turn the dimmer **** for the dash lights, the rear parking lights also brighten and dim.
When I did have the car running before, if I had the headlights turned on while it was running and turned the ignition off nothing would happen (Meaning the car kept running with the ignition OFF until I turned the headlights off). And if I started the car, it would run rough UNTIL I turned the headlights on, then it ran well. I turn the headlights back off and it started running rough again.
The fuel pump kicks on when I turn the headlights on while the ignition is off as well.
There's about 15 cut wires hanging from underneath the dash all around the fuse box.
Someone forgot to put a bolt in the steering column. I can pull the steering wheel down on one side (and that's also the only way I can get the headlight dimmer switch to work).
Cruise control has been removed.
It's such a headache.
I also ran a positive wire from the battery straight to the purple neutral switch wire (i read on a post you could do that instead of crawling under the car to check the starter), nothing happened.
the previous owner did not take care of this car. They butchered it, in fact.

Yeah the 84 is in wayyy better shape. After a good tune-up it'll be ready to go.
