Urgent Alternator question
Dear members!
I need some help with an urgent problem!
We doing a tune up job on 86 firebird LG4 engine.
We removed the ecu and all the wiring and installing an Edelbrock 1406 carb and aluminum intake and water pump, and some chrome thing etc.
So the problem is. We removed the firewall c100 to engine wiring harness covers, because it was damaged, and we planned to replace it to new. The project was stopped, because of other jobs on the car need attention. Now when we want to install the new covers just we can not figure out where the leads go from the small white connector (which goes to the side of the alternator) One is black one is red.
The black goes into the harness and the red has a long wire with an eyelet end. It looks too long to connect it to the and of the alternator (where batt lead will go), but not enough long to reach the main huge red wires end (which goes to the starter). The lead is ~35-40cm long. And has a 20amp factory fuse in it (near the and).
So the question shortly. Where the red wire go from the alternator side(white) connector?
ps this connector can be flipped or it has a specific direction?
Will wait for any kind reply! Best Regards!

Re: Urgent Alternator question
If I read your post correctly , I think you may be looking at the large red wire from the Alternator that has a somewhat sizable eyelet on the end of it , yes ? And that it is too short to reach the big +12v terminal on the starter ? Well , in the past I have found this wire to be either connected to the starter , which your wire is too short to , or I have found it connected to a little black plastic remote mounted terminal that is in the big + wire to the battery . This terminal lug will be mounted to the body somewhat nearby where the wire can reach to . Thread Starter

Re: Urgent Alternator question
Will try to make picture when i gets home.
Many google result show it should be run into the main positve line. And they use the nearest connection point for it (the back batt power post) and those wires leads into directly to the batt pos side.
Also want to ask. Our replacement generator what we bought Tuff Stuff Replacement Alternators 7127NC6G
(http://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/tff-7127nc6g)
had a sticker on it for additional ground.
So why? And it is a must need? Because the factory one grounded with its housing.
