Vats passkey question
Hello. I'm looking to do the passkey on my 1991 camaro. I already checked the resistance in my key and now I need to know which wires under the dash are the ones I need the check for resistance? I've been looking around but I'm unsure which are the right wires. Any pics? Thanks.

Re: Vats passkey question
Once you have the keys resistonce that's all you need.
Find a resistor/resistors to match it. Solder them together or use very small but connecters. Soldering is always better.
Look under the dash at the bottom of the column and you will see an orange sleeve with two small white wires but with another connecter going to it.
(what is in the photo are the wires and connecter you are bypassing.)
Unconect the connecter and make a " U " shape with the resister and jump the connection coming from up under the dash. Just leave the connecter coming from the column alone. At this point the keys job no longer plays a roll in the VATS process.
You will also want to bypass the starter enable relay in the drivers side kick panel.

Re: Vats passkey question
Bypassing the relay is unnecessary. The resistor tells the system the correct key is present, if that resistance is incorrect the ECM disables cranking and fuel injection pulse. Bypassing the relay and having a bad resistor just means the engine will crank and not start (because of the lack of injector pulse).

Re: Vats passkey question
OK ,
If he still has a no crank when trying to start the car even after installing the correct resistor with the key bypass then I suggest jumping the starter enable relay connector to see what happens. If the car starts then its doing what mine was doing.
I had some issues with what I believe was a malfunctioning VATS module so I had the VATS aspect removed at the EPROM level and still had to bypass the starter enable relay.
