Advice needed: weird parking lights wiring - from factory?

Feeling a little birdbrained but I have a problem with my (stock) 91 Firebird. The previous owner already mentioned that, too (he imported the car factory-new from California back then). I never really paid attention until today:

Normally when you press the right section of the lights switch (the one with the P) the parking lights should turn on - as far as I know. Well on my car the headlight/low beam is switched on, although at a lower intensity! Which is weird because the headlights are retracted and so they only illuminate the engine compartment. The fog lights and parking lights stay dark. Apparently this has always been like that since the car was delivered. Everything else is working as it should.

What’s wrong with the wiring here? How do I correct it? Suggestions appreciated!

The wiring on these cars is not too complicated you should be able to figure out how to fix it.

From the factory on each side, there are 3 wires (brow, blue and black) that go to the front park/turn signal bulb socket and about 30cm higher from the same harness there are 2 wires (black and blue or brown) that go to the side marker/park bulb socket.

They probably added a parking bulb in the headlights, there is a trick with the switch to open the headlights without turning them on, though I do not remember it as I never use it.

You could simply reconnect the 2 cables from the parking bulb to theyr original location.

If that is not the case, you probably just need to find the location were the modification was made on the electrical harness, fuse box or switch and reconnect like from the factory.

Thanks for the reply, I really appreciated it! I checked those wires and interestingly there is the orange factory bulb with the dual glow filaments but the socket has only two wires, light blue and black. I can see that there was a third one in the middle, probably brown, that was cut off very close to the socket.

I hope to reconnect that brown wire as you advised. Do you happen to know if I can get to the soldering spot through that yellow fatty guck inside the socket?

Yes the brown is the parking light and is in the middle.
Blue is the turn signal and black/ground.
It should be possible to open the bulb socket to remove the pin and reconnect the wire, if it does not work out the bulb socket part number is DORMAN Part # 85867 or ACDELCO Part # LS253.

From the factory:
-the front park/turn lights and front side markers are orange. Turn signal blinks alternated between front turn signal and side marker.
-front parking lights are orange, the 1157 bulb you are looking at.

If you need white parking lights and synchronized turn signals, I found a solution https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/elec...king-turn.html
