O2 sensor Lean? or Wrong?

codes come up 13 and 44. So is a new O2 sensor the cure ?? Or could it be an undiagnosed vaccum leak somewhere as told to me by other firebird owners. Mike from Auto Barn -really cool guy- says that these 1984 error code detection systems were dinosaurs at best and oft times threw out No codes to detect a problem,.... and that 44 and 13 codes may NOT necessarily mean a lean 02 sensor condition. Sometimes it may be an Un-diagnosed Engine temp coolant problem that does NOT show up on 1984 OBD 1's. please send your input? many thanks

I ran the engine and checked the spark plugs- they are clean- almost too clean- what is the sign that the engine is running too "lean",,,, Toast brown is Good but my plugs show no color. And of course- no more over rich soot on the plugs- The new Carb took care of that --- But maybe I leaned it too much?

Well- I checked with my timing light and tach and found that 1 plug was dead. Straight Up. So I replaced the plug and Waaaa Laaa- the engine idles at 800 instead of the previous 650. Thats because I had adjusted the idle mix screws and idle stop with only 7 cylinders firing"unknown to me at the time". With 8 cyl--- if One is "not firing" the slight difference in idle is not always apparent. Word to the wise. Never Assume. We all know that one.
