88 GTA digital dash odometer

I am having some problems with the odometer section of the dash. Any wheres between 5-30 minutes of driving the odometer display will go blank and remains so till the car is shut off for approx 1/2 hour or more. Then it works ok again till it goes blank again. Seems to be keeping track of milage however.

Any suggestions???

Thanks,
Tim

I have a digital dash too that acts up from time to time. Unfortunately the trouble shooting proceedures in the gm shop manuals usually call for replacing the unit. It's pretty lame. For example: step one: check a certain voltage, step two: if voltage is below a certain number replace unit. Of course that's when they had boxes of the dashes laying around in the days of ******s and motley crue. The wiring for the digital dash is all printed circuits, which are laminated to further make wiring a pain in the ***. I can give you a wiring diagram for the digital dash if you feel like getting in there and looking around. Let me know.

Hi Greg,

Do you have the board circuit diagram or is it the 'general' wiring diagram? I have the car wiring diagram (how the dash connects to the car), but the problem is internal to the display itself (I have swap displays with a buddy and the problem moved).

If you have the actual board diagram I would be more than interested in that. It can't be too hard to fix, just kind of tough when one is shooting in the dark at a pin head

The problem with my dash is also on the odometer screen. Sometimes the odometer or average speed or trip milage gets all messed up, usually when the trip milage exceeds 400 miles or so. It stays messed up after I reset the trip milage, but sometimes clears up after the car sits for a while. By messed up, I mean the numbers are incomplete and blurry. But that's the least of my worries right now. I just swapped in a 305 TPI engine with an Eaton M90 supercharger/intercooler setup and converted from the 700R4 to a T-56 manual trans and I'm not getting spark, so the trouble shooting begins.
