'90 IROC starter rewire help

Hey guys, thanks for looking. I have had a problem for a while, and it had progressively gotten worse. Originally, my car would not turn over occasionally. I thought it was when it was hot or something, but I would be able to turn it back on after a few minutes. Then one time I couldn't get it to start for three days, my car was stuck at work. I got it to start and I continued to have problems. I got a remote start kit installed (which was a horrible experience in itself, and then after a few months, it would only start with the remote key. Also, I would have to shake the car and use the remote key to start it occasionally. Now, after my car has been sitting for a year because it overheated in the summer last year, I need to get it working again. I put in new oil and coolant only to remember that it wont start.

My thinking is that my starter needs to be rewired, which I would need help doing or learning how to do, or if anyone has any suggestions. It would be nice to finally fix this issue permanently. My apartment complex is going to tow my car soon since my tags are out of date. If you can help, please tell me! I plan on looking at it this weekend. Thanks!

Re: '90 IROC starter rewire help

When it won't start, does the security light stay on? Engine crank, or does nothing happen when the key is turned?

Just from your description, particularly the part about shaking the car to start it. I am thinking the VATS wires are broke or making poor contact, this usually happens at the ignition switch.
