ALDL question (A/B Jumper triggers fan but no data)
Hi,
I'm currently trying to learn more about my car and got myself an ALDL Cable (installed the drivers on my laptop and the connection tests ok in winaldl).
Now according to the instructions there is a jumper with three different settings and I'm most probably doing something wrong since I don't get any data at all...
Setting #1 "Normal":
No data, no reaction (should be this way I think)
Setting #2 "A --> B":
No data
Setting #3 "A --> B with 10k resistor"
No data and motor - fan starts running
Tried it with a paper clip too and only the fan starts running (ses light goes out like normal, not triggering any diagnosis mode) --> Would greatly appreciate any ideas on what I'm doing wrong!!!
PS: The car runs normal apart from two (at least I think not connected) problems --> Rough Idle (I wanted t get the IAC and TPS reading because of this) and my headlight switch is most possibly busted since they go up but not down and the activators and relays test out ok

Are you turning the key on?

I tried it with Ignition and with the motor running, maybe the problem is with my timing, when should I try to connect pins a and b? (before turning the key? or after the security light goes off?)

Re: ALDL question (A/B Jumper triggers fan but no data)
I got it to work on saturday, don't ask me what the reason was
The right order is:
-Plug in (with resistor if needed)
-Turn the key
-If the fan starts running you triggered the Diagnostics Mode (we want that^^)
-If Winaldl doesn't get any data now check the connection (mine was good enough to trigger the mode but too bad to get data as far as I can tell) and/or correct the config for the right ECM and BAUD Rate!!
--> Success
