1987 LG4 Coolant fan relay

Okay Gents, I need a little bit of help.

I have a 1987 LG4 coupe. Long before I owned the previous owners messed with the wiring.
The C207 connector is completely missing, and the fan turns on when the key is in "on", however the stock fan relay is completely bypassed. They used spade connectors plugged into the fuse block to power it.
I'd prefer to repair the stock setup and have the fan turn on when I reach the appropriate temperature.. However last night I ran into a funky problem.
The green sensor wire for the relay is tee'd into the lt green wire running to the throttle kicker relay, and the brown w/ white stripe wire leading to the alternator- which is disconnected- they went to a 2 wire setup.

Why on earth would they do this?

I've followed the black ground wire and black/red wires that lead to the fan motor- they are simply cut and remain in the Passenger frame rail harness.

Seeing as I do not have the E4ME (sp?) Q-jet on hand, and all of the engine control modules and solenoids are missing, can I go ahead and run the green sense wire from the relay to the sensor in the PS side of the block, patch the fan wires back together and go my merry way?

Also, I have to comment on the stupidity of the prev. owners. They had carb'd 383/700r4 in the car. Why didnt they transplant all of the LG4 sensors/components to the 383, re-needle the Q-jet and go? Wouldn't that solution retain everything stock and reliable about the car?

Currently there is a 10:1 comp 305 with a warm cam in the car, Edel. performer intake, headers. I am however going to T5 swap into the car.
Would it be worth the investment to purchase another harness/ compnents and a Q-jet and bring it back to what it once was?- as in making it look 'stock' even if the motor/transmission are not?
Sorry for the book!

The relay is located on the drivers side firewall. IIRC it is the far right one.
