Changing power window buttons to OEM
Changing power window buttons to OEM
Hi guys,
I am trying to change my power window buttons to OEM ones but the ones I have installed now have 6 connections compare to OEM ones which have 4 connections.
Anyone who can help me understand which cables (colors) to go with the OEM ones ?
I have attached some pic.
Thanks for all the help !

None of that looks like OEM wiring or anything else.
No telling what it does.
It's a fairly safe bet the red & black are power & ground; the rest, impossible to guess.
Best bet would be to figure out who made it, and contact them for tech support.
My guess would be however, that the reason there's 6 wires in that aftermarket setup, is because it's designed in such a way that it needs 6 wires; and a switch that only accommodates 4 of them won't work with it. Otherwise, if it would, the aftermarket mfr wouldn't have wasted money putting the other 2 wires in there.

He may be able to help you out,but your going to have to get the proper female plug to the OEM switches(look in the interior parts for sale) and ask for them with most of the original harness intact(including the plugs)
What car is this for,Chevy or Pontiac.???

You don't need the plug.
YOu can use individual discrete slide connectors. Yeah, the plug would be great, no question of that; but FAR FROM necessary.
Of more immediate concern is why whoever mfd the setup you have, used 6 wires, while the OEM setup only used 4. Not saying either the one or the other is "better", only, ya gotta find out what, electrically, makes em DIFFERENT.
Doesn't matter whether it's a Camaro or a Bird. AFAIK the PW stuff is IDENTICAL IN EVERY WAY between them. They're both GM; the PW wiring harness wasn't an opportunity for the 2 sticker packages to "differentiate" themselves from each other.
The key remains, IDENTIFY what you've got which is OBVIOUSLY aftermarket, and obtain whatever info about it might be forthcoming.
Maybe you can adapt it to the OEM switches, and maybe not. You won't know until you know what it IS in the first place.

I ask because I've seen aftermarket 6-wire "black boxes" that add this functionality to regular power windows.

So you think the 2 "extra" wires I can get rid off ?
Doubtful.
But who knows.
Find out what you've got FIRST, and how it works; and THEN AND ONLY THEN, speculate about cutting wires.

Are the extra two wires for illumination of that aftermarket button? Is a wireless remote or car alarm in the car?

Trace those 6 wires they probably are hooked up to the 4 wires you need to make the oem switch work. What year is it? Someone may have a wiring diagram to help you out.

OK...so it appears you have a Camaro/Firebird window switch but that connector is not correct and is a little spooky looking IMO because of the exposed soldered leads....what exactly are you trying to do with all of this? There is nothing wrong with the factory 3rd gen power window system in terms of its design layout-I would not use that connector even if you figure out what the leads are for.
If you simply need the OEM power windows working as GM intended, I can send you a pin-out of what wires go where on your OEM switches-I have extra switch connectors too if you need them. Let me know....
