I went with a powermaster 140amp alternator with a heavier gauge wire to the battery. I need to install a new fuseable link, and was wondering what kind of amps I need. Do I just go with a 140amp link? I'm sorry if this question sounds dumb. Thanks!
I don't think fusible links are rated by current like fuses are. You choose them by wire gauge.
Years ago (decades ago) I was told by an auto electric shop owner to choose a fusible link 4 gauges smaller than the gauge of wire of the circuit you're wanting to protect. If you want to protect a 14-gauge wire you would use an 18-gauge fusible link, for instance. And to keep the fusible link shorter than 12" or so.
