I see there's been quite a few inquiries about the choke light – but none of them seem to be matching with my car is doing.
1984 Firebird 5.0 4BBL Rochester Quadrajet
When I turn the ignition on the choke light comes on for a split second and then goes off – never comes back on again. I have ordered a new choke coil and plug, since mine is damaged… The plug anyway. The resistance if I put my multi meter between the terminal and grounded to the body – is about seven ohms – I read in another post that if it's under 10 ohms it should be replaced… Does that sound right? I have not put it on yet. I have been trying to look to find a relay – but no one seems to list the relay… Has anybody got a part number that I can use for the relayed to get a replacement relay.?
Any thoughts and ideas why the choke light would flash on like that at initial start up would be most helpful… I'm kind of running out of places to look.

Reason: Left out year model
When you turn the ignition to On WITHOUT STARTING THE ENGINE, does it come on and stay on?
Why are you working on this in the first place? What (besides the light maybe) is the car doing wrong that got you to looking at this?
Initially none of the dash lights were working… Check engine light, seatbelt, high beam and so forth… Now all the turn signals and highbeam and check engine light works everything works except for the choke light.
When you turn the ignition on without starting the car, the light just briefly flashes on and immediately goes off… It does not stay on.
Other than that – the car is not really doing anything wrong… I am however getting a rich mixture code after driving it for a little while. I don't think the choke was opening – I just replaced the choke coil, but haven't had a chance to check it yet. After I replaced the coil, I did turn the ignition to the on position without starting the car, and the choke light still only flashes briefly and then it immediately goes off. It does not stay on until you start the vehicle
I did replace the broken pig tail since of the retaining clip was actually broken and the connector fell off of the choke coil. I am getting a 12 V current when I turn when I start the car

It's in the same place as in every other one of these cars... the "convenience center", which is a sort of little tray that the diagnostic connector is also mounted in (above the driver's right knee)
I don't have a library of factory service manuals for every F-Body model year, but if it's not in the Convenience Center, try the right front corner of the engine compartment above the battery; 4 wires connected to it:
Ive literally just been in the garage to try. So with both relays plugged into the convienience centre the voltage was jumping between 1 and 4 volts so i pulled the green relay first, started the engine and i was getting exactly 1v on the choke power wire. weird. pulled the silver relay out and......1v
I then pulled the power wire off the connector on the choke with the engine still running and then i was getting 13.9 volts ?!?!? checked the battery and that was charging at 14.6 volts which is fine
what the hell is going on here.
