ALTERNATOR POST TOO CLOSE TO ALUM VALVE COVERS..IDEAS?

Ordered a 200 amp alternator and upgraded the wiring. The output post is too close to the valve cover. Should i expect to take to old alternator apart and swap the vertical bolt on style output?

See this thread: side post alternator.

If you don't want to buy a 140amp Powermaster alternator, you could disassemble yours and see it you can relocate the output post to the side of the case in the same fashion.

where did you get that side post model? My powermaster has the rear post and the other powermaster I have has that threaded block on the rear. I like this a lot better.

Easiest way would be to be to use a dog leg offset. Why take units apart? That would put the post connector away from the side of the cover. It should be easy enough to fabricate.

I ground some off the original peg then swapped over to the original peg with the bolt. I wish there was more but i could not remove the outer coil.

Re: ALTERNATOR POST TOO CLOSE TO ALUM VALVE COVERS..IDEAS?

Looks like its just the post that's close to the cover.

I would put it together using the thinnest nut I could find then gently use a fine tooth hack saw/dermal/whatever and cut off the rest of the post on the other side.

Then use a rubber boot over the hole connection.

You always put the nut on a bolt before you cut them any way so on removal the nut straitens out the threads.
