Car keeps dying
For some reason it seems my battery wont hold a charge, but i'm not sure if thats it. The car wont start on its own, but it will when jumpped. I replaced teh alternator, having it rewound to 150. The car was runnin, and i let it charge the battery. Before i turned it off the voltage was where it should be on my dash gauge. I turned it off, and restarted it right away to see if it would and it did. 3 days later now it wouldnt start..i was wondering if anyone has any suggetsions for me

I tried to charge it, and it didnt seem to do anything. The voltage meter on my dash is where it should be just above half the gauge i think, a lil past 12. The car has a rewound 150 amp alternator in it. It seems when i jump it i have to really prime the hell outta the engine to get it to start. It sounds like it wants to start, but dont. I could really use some help, any suggestions on what it could be or how to trouble shoot it would be appreciated.

I had the same problem. It would take forever for the battery to recharge and when it did the car would still hardly turn over, even when directly jumped. I tried a new battery and it still did it. It's going to sound crazy, but the problem was my under hood light. I guess the mercury went bad (the light uses gravity, turns on when hood is up and off when it is closed), and it stayed on all the time-and even when my battery was fully charged and the car was running, it would still cut out and leave me stranded. My alternator was tested at autozone and was good. I would say on average, before I descovered what the problem was, it would take about 10 hours until my battery lost the juice to turn my starter. There are two ways to determine if this is the problem with yours. 1) remove the under hood light (do not replace it) or 2) when it's dark out, check the space between the hood and fender and look for any kinda light. The second method is kinda hard because the hood is shaped in a way that makes it hard to see even if the light was on. There's a good chance this isn't your problem, but you may have a similar problem with something drawing power when your ignition is off. But it's worth a try.
