No Spark - Help!
Hey everyone!
I am dealing with a confusing no spark issue with my engine.
Car: Pontiac Firebird 89.
Engine: 2.8 V6 (Vin-S).
Problem: No spark in spark plugs.
What i have done:
1) Distributor - I went as far as bought a new distributor and replaced it. Nothing.
2) Ignition Coil - I didnt change the ignition coil, but i tested it with a new one. Nothing. I let the electricity mechanic to check for the power to ignition coil and he said that the + side is giving positive signs. I dont know what that means but oh well.
3) Fuses - Checked and changed some fuses (even if i didnt see any problems with them). Changed all the inj, gages, ecm etc. fuses which should be connected to the ignition system (as far as i can read electrical diagrams).
Story: I recently changed a new distributor cap, wires and rotor. Car was working fine for 2 days. I was driving with the 3rd gear at 3000-4000 RPM (was doing some active driving) and suddenly "Pufff" everything stopped working. I didnt hear any blows or nothing. Just stopped suddenly. If i try to crank the engine, it cranks but no spark. The engine just wont start. I had to push my car home by hand (it was about 2km from my home so i didnt see the need to tow the car). Was one hell of a day though, pushing a car
. Anyways some more information. I have the manual transmission one. I have to hold down the clutch for the car to start. Also the mechanic said (i worked with a buddy) that when i turn off the ignition switch, it gives a small spark right after that. While cranking no sparks. More to that, i have a custom ignition system, where the engine wont start if you turn the ignition switch, but rather i have a button installed where the engine starts. I recently had to change the ignition switch to another GM jeep ignition switch which was identical, but it was used. My original one jammed and didnt turn.
What do you guys think is the problem? I am looking at the diagrams and my only thoughts now are the ignition switch, the custom ignition (although i dont think this is the problem because the starter seems to work). The starter seems to be fine, the engine cranks. I JUST DONT HAVE A SPARK. One more thought is a faulty security or immo system but i dont think that is the problem. I recently changed the battery, but also i dont think that this is the problem. Wiring is another cause, but come on, a wire can burn out like that? How can an engine stop just while driving (okay okay im just being a little bit ironical here).
What happened? Please help, i am clueless atm.

Is there power?
If no, there is a bad or burned out connection between it and the ignition switch, or power to the switch.
Then disconnect the 2 terminal connector at the distributor.
Check for power on both pins of the harness.
Is there power there?
If yes, reconnect that plug and grab a test light (the type for testing for voltage, not a continuity tester).
Connect one lead to the coil primary (the ignition module side not the key side) and the other lead to ground.
Crank the engine.
Does the test light FLASH while cranking?
Be aware of the difference of FLASHING verses PULSATING which will be observed when you have the test light connected to the key side.

Thank you for answering!
So basically as i understood from your post is that you suspect there is some kind of a faulty connection or the ignition switch is gone bad? I have ordered a new ignition lock for myself and the electricity mechanic is coming to check the connections this week. I will keep posted on my updates. I hope it's not related to any sensors, because if it is then i have to wait some weeks again for the parts...
This problem is driving me nuts.
