Autometer tach

I got a 5" Autometer tach/shift light from a friend of mine out of his 4 banger ***** and hooked it up in my car in place of my old broken tach. But this one reads about 2000 rpms higher than my old Autometer Tach. There's no way of adjusting/setting it from a 4 cylinder to 8 is there?

Check the back. There is usually a switch that lets you use it on a 4, 6, or 8 cyl.

Yes there is. I just bought a new Autometer with shift light and it came with directions on how to wire it for 4, 6, and 8 cyclinder cars. I don't have the directions now but I will a little later. I'll post them.

There will be 3 sets of wires that stick out the back... usually orange, green and red...(?) but if u have a v8 u need all of those wires connected (not cut) but for a 4 cyl... u cut 2 of those wires and thats why ur tach is off. U will probably need to open up the tach and solder the wires all back together.
