ok, i've bought two ignition switches and both were wrong for my car. i have an 86, TA, WS6, 5sp, tilt wheel, 4bbl. the switches that i bought have the actuator rod mount on the side. my rod plugs into the switch from the bottom. can anyone tell me the correct switch for my application?

thanks!

Re: ignition switch

Can you read the original (Delco) part number on the switch plate? It could be 01990116 or something similar. That should be a clue as to the appropriate replacement.

Re: ignition switch

It might be of some help to look at some of the switch photos here:

Keep in mind that some photos might be stock images and may not depict the actual part.

Re: ignition switch

When you dropped the column was the switch mounted to left or right side?

D1405B AC Delco left side
D1404B AC Delco right side

the screws were on the left side of the column and also held the brights switch but the ignition switch itself was on the very top.

you see how this switch has the actuating rod going into the left side. my rod points straight up and must mount from the bottom unless i'm missing something.
