Headlight module

Ok getting down to the nitty gritty with my rebuild. I have an 88gta. I do not have the headlight module. With all my wiring that we redid this is the last part i hope i need. Now i looked around and from what i find is this is like a holy grail part. wanting to keep this car around for years to come and the fact I am doing all the wiring myself. I was wondering if anyone has tried to use a module out of a 4th gen are they easier to find? Or maybe out of a corvette? Has anyone found any other cars modules that we can use?

Re: Headlight module

Do a Google search. There are plenty of pages that show which modules are compatible. Some are, some aren't, but it's easy to find with google.

Re: Headlight module

Sorry for the bad news. The 4th gen module will work for a model year 90 and newer, not your 87-89 Firebird. I just sold my last one yesterday.

Re: Headlight module

What makes it work on the 90+ and not the older? Plugs or operations

Re: Headlight module

Ok. I am debating if I should use a module or relay setup from older style.

Re: Headlight module

It looks like the differences between the modules are that the wires going to the motors are reversed and the 88 has a brown wire which is hot when in PARK or HEAD position, while the newer one has a white wire that is hot in OFF. As an academic question, if you swapped the wires heading to the motors (assuming the polarity is the same on earlier and later motors), and then added a NC relay which is energized by the brown wire to hook up to the white wire's input, would it work with a new module?

Re: Headlight module

I have better news today. I rescued a module from a PAP today. I have tested it and refurbished and put it into stock. TDS 506150: 1987-89 FIREBIRD/FIERO MODULE.
