Ignition switch wiring question

Hey guys, wondering if anyone knows what all the wires to the ignition switch are for. Rats chewed up the factory harness pretty badly so I'm switching to the painless standalone tpi harness. It requires 12v power from an ignition switch, and I'm hoping to retain the factory style switch. Here is a list of all the wires going to it

Black Connector:

Light Brown w/ White Stripe

Re: Ignition switch wiring question

If you have the GM manual, it will show the functions. Generally there are wires for each function of the switch, start, run, accessory, etc. They may go from hot in run to cold in start, or other stages like that depending on what they control. Best to refer to the GM manual.

If you just need a hot in run signal, look at the fuse block. There will be open ports marked ACC for Accessory power. Other ports will be for Radio, ie powered by the radio circuit, gauges for aftermarket gauge power, etc.

What I'd probably do, is go by the GM manual, and tie the aftermarket harness into the circuit that the OEM harness used. Chances are if you removed the existing engine harness, the existing circuit is probably still there with it's own fuse in the fuse block, and isn't being used for anything.

I dont have access to the GM manual, so I cant reference it. I need the 12v from the ignition switch to power the computer and the ignition coil when the switch is in start and run.

Almost all the wiring under the hood was damaged beyond repair; so as it sits now the fuse block is not getting any power and I'm not sure how to wire it up. For now, I'm just trying to get the ignition switch working on its own so I can test out the new painless harness and see if the engine runs with it.
