Car will not start.....help me please!!!!!!!

I just can't seem to figure out what the heck is going on with my 89 Camaro. I go to start it,nothing happens. All the lights seem to be working fine, not dim or anything. Alarm light is bright as usual. Put the key in it,turn the key and absolutely nothing. If I place jumper cables on the battery, she'll crank right up after a few seconds. Does it sound like my battery does not have enough juice to crank the car or possibly is it time to exchange it for a new one? Or maybe is it possibly something wrong with something else?starter,wireing,etc...All information would be greatly appreciated,Thanks

You said alarm light? Do you mean the factory SECURITY light for the coded keys? If your car has those it might be the problem I had. Do your lights come on nice and bright, gauges sweep and everthing but the engine is completely dead, starter won't even try to crank? But the security light stays on? I had this problem, you know how I fixed it? I got a new ignition key. I looked at my old one and the pellet in the key looked very worn, so I got a new one and it starts just fine.

It has an aftermarket security system currently installed on the car now,as far as I know no known factory security installed components other than the VATS. All the lights,interior,headlamps,etc...seem to be just fine. Engine will do nothing, will not even try to turn over. All it does is just click...click. But like I said above, she'll crank right up when I put a set of jumper cables to her. I actually never thought about the chip in the key,it does look a little worn to me. What would I have to do to replace it? Go to the Chevrolet dealership and get a new one? Thanks for replying!

If it clicks, I''m not sure that is the problem, mine didn't even click when the key was giving me grief.

Probably just a bad battery.

I went through the same thing with my '89. Think battery cables. Mine were worn, even though the ends looked good. I replaced them, and the TA now has no problem starting.

Check the easiest things first!
