I have a 86 Trans Am and just noticed that the right brake light and right rear turn signal are out ONLY when the headlights are on. I replaced the bulbs as at first I did not realize they worked without the headlights on. The left brake light and turn signal work ok. I just noticed this before heading back to college for finish the summer term, so I have not begun to look at wiring. I hope that someone had a similar issue and could give me a head start on the problem. Thanks.

Does your car have a digital dash?

Till you answer the above, check all bulbs to make sure they are NOT LED’s, and installed correctly.

A common mistake is people installing 2 filament bulbs 180° rotated.

Some crazy symptoms have been reported doing that.

Yep, it has the digital dash. Personally I would have perferred an analog one, but that is what this Bird has.

having the wrong bulb in the turn signal can do it as well make sure you have 1156 bulbs and check the grounds.

Re: Brake Dance
1. Bought the car in April of this year.
2. I had checked the lights back then and all seemed fine.

The dash's diagnostics is what advised me the lights were out.

Thanks.

Re: Strange brake light issue
When I got the dash message, I bought and replaced the 1156 bulbs. Will check the grounds.

Thanks.

Re: Strange brake light issue
Just replaced the left most socket, 2 wires, on the right side. It had a small crack that allowed the bulb to move a bit. That appears to have taken care of the issue. Thanks for all of your replies.
