VATS question

Re: VATS question
I can't tell what size wire you used but as long as it is 10 gauge you will be fine. I would also electrical tape your jumper wire to the relay so it doesn't pop out or come loose. I use the same style jumper to test any of my electronics on a relay. I would urge you to still install a starter disable of some kind whether it be a simple switch to that relay or a car alarm.

Re: VATS question
I didnt even think about the wire size until after I put it together smh. Its either 10 or 12 though , thinking its 10 though. I also worried about it coming loose thats why I got those little blade terminals that kinda match the blades of the relay. I was going to try taping to the relay connector but not sure if I can wrap it tight with the wires running to it from the back side. I will consider some type of other anti theft system possibly, electrical work is honestly not my strong point so I will have to do some extensive research before I consider what I will do to replace the VATS.

Re: VATS question
Just get a generic car alarm that hooks up to the dome light and has a motion sensor with starter disable when the remote is on. They are all over eBay/amazon and they are cheap. The added bonus is that you can tell your insurance provider and they will lower your rate, assuming you have comprehensive coverage and not just liability. Same goes for your garage and home, buying a cheap wifi alarm with an ear piercing siren will lower your auto and home insurance. I'm looking into a garage sprinkler system too.

Re: VATS question
Good news / bad news. I did a read on j-money’s Harris performance chip. Vats has been deleted from it already.
The passkey was still working controlling the security light and enable relay. Now that the relay is out of the equation you can remove the bulb or if there is a fuse for the vats remove it.

Re: VATS question
okay so VATS was disabled but it still could control the relay? I did not know that. So do I need to leave it bypassed or reinstall the old starter relay? I feel like im back at square 1 with the no start and light coming on.

Re: VATS question
It doesnt even try to crank when it randomly does that no start. It literally does the same thing as trying to start it with the start relay removed. you turn the key and its just dead silence plus the security light stays lit. once it gets to the point where that light doesn't stay illuminated with the key on engine off it will always turn over like normal.

Re: VATS question
You should leave the relay out and the jumper in and see if the problem persists.
The issue is more than likely the key cylinder or a worn key pellet. Bye jumping the relay the key resistor is bypassed. Your chip being programmed without the vats the computer is not looking for a signal from the vats passkey module.

Re: VATS question
Thats what I was planning. Really thats the only thing I could think to do is see if bypassing relay would help. Hopefully monday Ill get it out to see if the problem rises again.

Re: VATS question
Quick Update: Its been a few weeks since installing the starter relay bypass and reinstalling my chip. Ive only driven the car a few times with the weather lately but Ive checked daily to see if the no start would reappear and so far it has not. I'm not 100% certain what took care of the problem but it seems highly likely that the relay bypass took care of it. Should the problem arise again I'll post but I hope Im in the clear now. Hopefully this thread may be of help to others in the future. Thanks to everyone that chimed in and helped and thanks to tunedperformance for taking a look at my chip.
