fuel pump
fuel pump
I have a 92 camaro RS with the L03 engine.
It was running fine and was my DD until yesterday. The fuel pump will not prime. fuses are good, relay is working. I checked the green/white wire into the relay and got 11.8v so the ECM should be commanding the relay on from what I understand. There is a 3 wire connector in front of the tank. One tan, one purple and one black. I get 6.5 constant volts from the purple and 0.5 constant volts with the tan. I would think that the voltage would stop flowing after a few seconds with just the ignition on. Doesn't it prime and then stop sending volts? and then start again when the car is cranked over?
Is 6.5v enough to prime the fuel pump? Where could that voltage drop be coming from? I have 12.3 or so volts at the battery.
edit: I just ran 12v into the fuel pumps connector. no response. it must be the fuel pump. I'm surprised because I replaced the original fuel pump about 4 years ago with a napa pump and it has only seen 10k miles more or less. those must be bad pumps.
