High speed blower went out but something else too?
This morning when I started my car no blower speeds would work. Worked great before stopping my car last night. After 5 minutes of driving it started working, but the high speed position would not. That's easy enough to troubleshoot tonight but I'm curious what the first symptom may indicate in conjunction with the high speed issue. My first thought was the blower since the Autozone model seems to only be good for a couple of years at a time but with the high speed issue-only now I'm less sure. Are high speed blower issues ever the blowers themselves and maybe not working at all for 5 minutes is the finicky motor showing signs of total failure? Thank you!

I will definitely be tackling this issue tonight based on the current "no high speed" symptom, since that's the only problem right now.
My question was more directly related to why do you think I had zero fan speeds for 5 minutes followed by only high speed not working. As far as I could find, the high speed symptom is not related to no speeds working, so it seemed very coincidental that I would suddenly have 2 unique issues at the same time with only 12 hours of sitting in the driveway as a cause. I did the badly-designed connector fix last year I think.

Didn't need a whole lot of testing LOL. The plug doesn't look much better so I'll have to order one of those. About to go get a new relay at Autozone. I'm still not sure what would have caused 5 minutes of no blower speeds. Maybe it'll come back so I can diagnose it.

Well, I got surprising results. There's no question the relay needed replacing but the new one did not fix the issue. So I went backwards a step to where I should have started and measured voltage at the blower. Max AC with the car running, speeds 1-3 measured 13.35 volts. High speed measured 13.5 volts. So, my blower is just refusing to blow at that voltage?

Can someone help me understand the numbers? With engine off, at the blower purple wire measures 12.xx volts for the first 3 speeds. High speed reads 11.5 volts. With the engine on, all 4 speeds read mid 13 volts, with the high speed reading a little higher than the lower 3. Yet no high speed with engine off or on. I'm just trying to understand the logic of volts being sent to the motor at high speed but it not turning. My logical brain needs an explanation.
So far I've replaced the high speed relay which was original and crispy and the blower because it was due for the lifetime swap at Autozone anyway.

Just to follow up, the connector for the high speed relay was not connecting as well as it should have been. I temporarily bent the terminals so they'd make better contact with the relay and that fixed it. The plastic around them were crumbling as I did so. I'm still missing how 13.5 volts would not power the motor on high but I guess I'll ponder that on my own time.

Blower, But Not The Type That Adds Horsepower
The way these blowers fail is a bad spot develops on the commutator.
A way to prove it on your blower is to (with power off) rotate it a ¼ turn, apply power and see if the blower starts.
