Car is cranking but not starting, no spark or something else??
My car won't start. I have been having lots of BS with what I think is the starter because it will not crank at all sometimes, ( information on that in this post https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/...ML/008759.html ) but now this is going on, now it will crank and not start. It did also stall me the other day for no reason and started right up again.
Took off the spark plug boot and held it next to the plug while cranking and there wasn't any spark jumping, it just kept cranking. I need some1 who really knows what this is or could be because I have no car because of this and I need it. Thanks!!

If your car is an auto, check the switch/plug on your shifter. It keeps the car from starting while in gear. When I rebuilt my car and tried to start it for the first time, it did the same thing. It cranked, but no spark. After I plugged the shifter in, it started right up. Just something to check.

If it cranks at all it's not going to be the switch in the shifter. That's mean to kill the starter, not just stop providing spark.
And actually the car should start in park and neutral.

Stick your finger in that boot and crank it. If it bites ya, you have spark. Seriously though, take a spark plug(one from the car or one you already have that works) and put it in the boot you took off. Ground the threads on the spark plug to the block or other good ground and crank the engine. You should see a nice spark.

Can u explain that better?? I don't want any crazy sparks coming from there either, if the plugs are even getting spark.

OK, I did that and theres no spark at all when I crank it. How do u test for spark from the coil to the distributor??
The larger terminal on the starter solenoid turns around and around when u turn it with a wrench, would that make BS with getting spark to the coil or the distributor?? Any1 know or have any ideas on this??

There's about 3 pages of ignition testing in the manual, but what you describes seems like the module may be dust.
It can be tested, though.
But pull the cap off, and look for any obvious bad stuff...bad rotor, major carbon tracks, etc.
Someone will pop in with the ignition dagnostics, but I can't type that much stuff

try the ignition module.. I've been through something similar. I've gone through 2 ignition modules in the 3.5 years since I've had the car. One was a GM module, the other a WELLS module.. now I'm back to a GM one, and things are still going good. I always carry a spare one (got one from ACCEL).. from what I've heard, the ACCEL module is quite decent..
