Hi, so when I purchased my 1989 Iroc the horn did not work and it was not connected properly. The fuse in the fuse box was a 5 and it required a 20. When I put a 20 in the horn just stayed on. I assume because the metal was touching? The yellow wire in the picture was clipped to the cap and just hanging there. Any suggestions on how to fix or pieces I may need to purchase? Thanks.
Your horn cap is busted. The metal bit stuck in the steering wheel is supposed to be bonded to the pegs with the yellow arrows pointing at em. The yellow wire clips on the tab with the pink arrow.
Depending how bad the cap is, you can maybe set the metal plate back on the tabs, and add a drop or two of slow cure epoxy onto the pegs to lock the plate where it belongs.
The plate that clips into the wheel is grounded. The plate on the cap floats isolated from the grounded plate normally. When you push the cap, the plates make contact and the horn blows. You have to make sure the plates aren't touching unless you're pressing the cap.
