Stereo and horn fuse blowing

The fuse that operates my stereo and my horn has blown. When I try to replace the fuse with the correct amperage fuse it Sparks incessantly and then blows within seconds. This leads me to believe there is a short. Has anyone experienced something like this? Is there a likely location for the short?

Is the cigarette lighter on the same circuit?

If so, try removing it, then try the fuse again. The coils get corroded, and short. I've also heard of, but not seen, the lighter socket also corroding and shorting.

Agree with Dave. Also, the wire going to the horn button maybe shorted at the button.

Well not so fast Dave, I didn't see a horn circuit so it may be on it. IDK

Re: Stereo and horn fuse blowing

Yeah, X2 on the lighter. Was my problem once. Just unplug the lighter socket from the back but careful with the connector. That orange wire is always hot. Probably took out your dome light, power mirrors and a bunch of stuff all on the ACC fuse too.
Happy hunting! I've got good OEM sockets and lighters if you end up needing one and can't find any

Re: Stereo and horn fuse blowing

If I unplug the wire to the socket won't power still be coming through the wire? Is there a way to delete the wire completely so there are no potential fire hazards?

Re: Stereo and horn fuse blowing

If you never want the lighter to work you can just cut the wire from the connector and insulate the end of it. Or insulate it until you want to plug a lighter back in. just protect it from grounding on anything while you're testing the circuit by putting in a new fuse

Turns out there was a screw in the lighter. It still Sparks after I took it out. I'll check the wire soon. Thanks guys!
