Guage fuse blowing randomly
Guage fuse blowing randomly
I have searched the other threads, they are not exactly like my issue. 1987 IROC Z28 5.7 73000 original miles. Have not done anything to the car yet, I'm just looking for the best place to start. With the headlights on, cluster lights are dim and temp guage is not reading correct. Randomly the 10 amp guage fuse will blow, cluster lights get brighter, and temp guage will read more proper temp, but volt, tach, and fuel guage stop working. This does not affect the running of the car. Car does have a slight TC shutter at mid range rpms. Please help, thanks.

Get a wiring diagram, a DVOM, and then start with a close visual inspection of all related circuitry/wiring/connectors/grounds. But whatever you do, do not replace that fuse with one of a higher rating.
Re: Guage fuse blowing randomly
Thanks for getting back to me, I found the wiring diagram and started under the dash. Under the hood I found that the previous owner had replaced the wire going to the torque converter. He used regular THHN #12 wire that is not heat rated with no loom or anything and used wire nuts. It had two places that were cracked and laying on the inner fender and fender to firewall bracket. Ran a new silicone wire all the way, hasn't blown today. Hope that was the only thing this person worked on. Thanks again..
