Found a strange plug in, what is it?

1987 Pontiac Firebird base 2.8 Automatic

Pulled a small twin pack of connections that were hiding behind the driver side foot kick panel (under the dash, right in front of the driver door jam) and out with them came this strange little one wire plug in. Is this some sort of diagnostic plug, or used to set the electronic timing on the primitive ECU, or what is it?

Strange plug in connector.

Somehow doesn't look factory but hard to tell from that photo. See if you can get one from closer up.

Looks about right to plug into the back of the fuse block. Could be an added circuit, could be factory, if it's not plugged in, it's probably for something your car didn't have. Some of the wiring for options is installed even if those options aren't purchased, it's just easier to make the harnesses somewhat flexible rather than custom building a harness just to add one more wire.

I take back part of what I said, it's an inline connector or potentially intended to plug into the distribution block further up the kick panel/A-pillar, but I'll stick with it being for an option the car doesn't have. There's no marks to show the terminal was ever mated with the matching female terminal. The blade would at least be scuffed if it had, they're just tinned brass usually.

Good to know nothing is disconnected, but man my curiosity is killing me. I wish I knew what it would be/could be.

Looks alot like what the cruise control cable in the steering column would plug into.
