Lights pop up

Hello all I have a 91 T/A GTA as soon as I turn the key even before firing it up the lights pop up and stay up all the time, lights are always on, gauge lights included does this sound like a faulty switch or messed up wiring?

Re: Lights pop up

Hey man check your dash pad by your passenger front speaker. If there is a little black plastic circle its a sensor called auto magic and if it senses low light it makes the headlights come on auto when you put the key into on position. So for example even in my garage it would come on unless I put a flash light on top of the sensor perhaps its dusty or needs to be cleaned.

Hope its the same issue i had bro! Good luck!

Yes! That's what it was, the previous owner had the dash off and that sensor was barried under the dash. Thanks that was so helpful. 2 days of messing around.

Re: Lights pop up

I have another ?. So my 91 GTA has the 305, 5 litre, when I replaced a push rod last week I noticed the set bolts are all screwed down tight does this mean I do not have to make any adjustments just tighten all the way down? I've read on hydraulic lifters they dont have to be adjusted is this true?

There is a proper way to set the lifters , , , and "the set bolts are screwed all the way down tight" most certainly AIN'T it !!!!!

PS , Having them tightened down like that is why your in there replacing pushrods in the first place ,
which would be the result of your valves trying to poke holes in the tops of your pistons .

Ya that's what I thought, this is how I bought the car probably why I got it so cheap there was a few things wrong with it that looked like attempted fixes. Thanks for the reply I'll make sure I set them properly.

Re: Lights pop up

So if I'm adjusting the valves with the engine running do I back the nut off till I hear the ticking then turn til no ticking and then is it a quarter or half turn after that? I cant turn the motor over from the drive pulley
