Headlights won't go up

1988 Firebird and the headlights won't go up. I read a lot of different threads trying to find the my 'specific' problem, but didn't see it. Though there are a LOT of threads. So here goes:
I replaced the bushings in both motors as the headlight buckets were free wheeling. Now both light buckets will go down - but not up. I can manually crank them up, but the lights on won't activate them up - they are silent. Lights off will pull them down.

Thanks for any help with this

Re: Headlights won't go up

replace the headlight control module on the firewall. yours being an 88 can only be replaced with an 87-89 module. The 90-02 module will not work .

I had a similar problem many, many years ago. One would go up sometimes, but most times it wouldn't. A strategically placed 'Fonzarelli thump,' or sometimes closing the door just so, would make it pop-up. Or sometimes I wouldn't feel like raising it manually, so I'd drive, and it would pop-up at a bump in the road. But they'd always go down. The Twilight Zone!

Turned out to be simple. One side of the harness wasn't plugged into the module securely. It looked fine, but at extremely close inspection, the connector was a hair from being clicked into place, but apparently plugged-in far enough that the jiggling of the car could make the connection. Pushed it in until it clicked, and it's been fine ever since. How it came loose, I have no idea.

Doubt you'll get so lucky, but check the connectors into the module to be sure they're securely plugged-in before you start spending money and tearing things apart, especially if, for some reason, you, or someone else, has been working around that module recently, say, at the brake booster, the windshield wiper motor, etc.

Thanks guys. This was just the kind of help I was hoping for. Funny too, I was messing around in the area where the module is last week - not knowing the module was even there. I probably bumped or pulled on some wires going to the module. I will update when I get if fixed. This car is new to me. I just bought it last fall down in Alabama. Towed it home to NC. Nice rust free car, but lots of little tings to fix on it. It's my first Firebird. I've had many Pontiacs, just never a bird till now. So I appreciate the help. Now I know where to look for the problem. And great to know there's a replacement module if I need it.
Thanks again - Red
