12v switched power

I'm installing a hollery efi. It wants a keyed power that remains on during cranking. Any suggestions?

I'm running a sbc. If that matters. Car was 86 carburetor from the factory

Re: 12v switched power

When I wire our Cars, I like to take the 12AWG Pink Ignition Wire that went to the Distributor Ignition Coil...
And create a Buss that will Trigger all Relays that come ON with Ignition.

This is how/ where I would connect that Holley EFI Circuit in our Cars.

Also the Main Power 12V+ and 12V- must be connected directly at the Battery Terminals!
No Buss or Power Distribution Points, and no Chassis Ground either!

Re: 12v switched power

I was going to hook power to the wire from battery to the alternator. And ground to the engine block. This is also where my battery negative goes. My plug is opposite corner to my battery

NO!

I mean literally connected to both Posts of the Battery.
No exceptions.

Thanks, I'm running it to the battery, I didn't think about the amount of power the efi system will be pushing as a whole.

Re: 12v switched power

The EFI System (Power-Train Control Module/ Computer) being directly connected to the Battery, has nothing to do with Power (Watts) consumption...
Instead, it has to do with being provided a "Clean" (Relatively) Power Source.

Most electric car accessories can be powered by connections anywhere on/ in the car.
However, electronics (like your Holley EFI Control Module) can be harmed, or made to malfunction by not being connected directly to the Battery.

Dirty/ noisy/ high amperage/ EMF wiring/ components will harm the Holley EFI Control Module if not connected to a nice noise filtering Battery.

Re: 12v switched power

50chevy3600: take a few minutes to jump on over to the holley efi web-forums. Do a search about RFI, EMI, and everything related to that topic. So many hundreds (or thousands) of peoples problems relate to electronic noise issues causing problems with the holey efi, therefore the best method to combat these issues is bringing the ecu's positive and negative leads directly to the battery terminals.

Re: 12v switched power

I wired it up as vorteciroc said. Fired up perfectly with the turn of the key. (Ran the start up procedure as they say.)

Thanks for the help

To anyone else planning a similar project, please listen to ^^^^this. Don't argue or ask if some alternate wiring scheme will be OK; just do it ^^^^this way.
